Dear Parks & Recreation, Senior Center and Fitness Center Users,

As you know, our community is facing a pandemic of the COVID-19 Virus. Out of an abundance of caution, the Recreation Department and The Town of North Branford has decided that all town buildings, including the STW Community Center, Atwater and Smith Libraries and the Town Hall will have limited access to members of the public.

This means that all Senior Center, and recreation activities are postponed, and the fitness center will not be open. We are currently planning to continue as such for at least two weeks. As a rule, we will follow the same schedule as the North Branford Public Schools. Should this change we will notify you.

If you are currently enrolled in a paid activity, we will prorate any fees for portions of activities you are unable to attend. This will be applied as a credit on your account and you may request a refund. I encourage you to wait until we all have a better idea of how activities will progress before making such a request.

Public parks will remain open but we encourage you to not to gather in large groups and to exercise care in coming in contact with others.

For matters at Town Hall, we are requesting that you conduct as much business remotely as possible including online, by phone or mail. For questions about particular departments, please contact the Town Hall directly.

We absolutely appreciate the precautions taken by both the town, the school system and any other organization responding to this virus, are very disruptive and are causing hardships to you and your families. We want you to know that, based on the current information about the severity of this illness, that we are all doing our very best to ensure the health and well being of all members of our community.

The Parks & Recreation and Senior Center offices will remain open to answer any questions you may have. We encourage you to reach out to us if we can be of any help. Thank you for your cooperation.

Patrick Rossiter
Interim Parks & Recreation and Senior Center Director

Update 3/20/20

Under advisement from the East Shore Health Department, we have closed playgrounds at our parks. Since the COVID-19 virus is reported to survive for up to 72 hours on hard surfaces such as plastic or metal, we cannot ensure that any playground structures are uncontaminated. The rest of the parks remain open and we encourage you to make use of them, remembering to keep distances of more than 6'.

Update 3/24/20

We are continuing to encourage residents to remain active and exercise regularly. However, all North Branford playgrounds, outdoor sports courts, basketball, tennis, and pickle ball courts are closed effective immediately and should be avoided. Unfortunately, these activities cannot be conducted while maintaining a safe distance or avoiding repeatedly touching objects touched by others. Thank you for your cooperation, stay safe.
